We promote self defence

Red Eagle promotes self defence as an alternative to evacuation. … Why?. .

fire arrow . Because self defence is empowering
fire arrow. Because bushfires are a controllable natural disaster
fire arrow . Because self defence is a positive and educated response to a controllable natural disaster.
fire arrow. Because bushfires can be beaten with knowledge
fire arrow . Because it will save lives AND properties, even in severe bushfire attacks.
fire arrow . Because it increases knowledge and skill in the community, which frees up government funding and resources for other purposes. It allows us to focus on effective and durable answers to the severe bushfire threat, rather than rely on feeding the fire suppression model, which, despite an ever increasing budget, can never protect taxpayers' houses in severe bushfire attack.

Red Eagle has the resources to teach correctly how to manage bushfire on your property and how to reduce or eliminate bushfire risk.

red beep . Consider this:
The chance of saving your house if you are able bodied and remain on site is 90%. This statistic has long been known. It comes from the Ash Wednesday fires of 1983, and these people did not have the benefit of Red Eagle's book or self defence system .

Was self defence dangerous in the Black Saturday fires?
Some 40% of properties were self defended on Black Saturday.
Based on Victorian Bushfire Royal Commission sponsored figures for the Kilmore East and Murrindindi fires, deaths were associated with about 2% of self defended properties and with about 2% of non self defended properties. The Victorian Bushfire Royal Commission report found the self defended properties (where deaths occurred) relied on information from fire agencies. One possible conclusion is that with better self defence information, the death rate on those properties may have been lower.
Our example -
Red Eagle's has developed a self defence system based on the proven principles of dry fire fighting, ie, stopping a bushfire spread without water. Red Eagle's self defence system has the advantage of valid and transparent science behind it. We taught this system to property owners and applied it successfully on Black Saturday to save people, house, vehicles and horses.

Red Eagle believes the individual is empowered when they can control the bushfire on their own property - when they become a bushfire defence architect .
Red Eagle's policy is to teach fire behaviour and a proven self defence system. We want self defence to become second-nature in bushfire land in Australia - like swimming or driving are second-nature skills.

Useful life saving skills may take a bit of effort to learn, but once learnt, never forgotten; once learnt, very worthwhile.

Severe bushfires are classified as a natural disaster, but they are not like other natural disasters.
For example, earthquakes and cyclones are not controllable.
Bushfires cannot exist without fine flammable fuel on the ground.
Because we can manage fuel, we can therefore control the bushfire.

Evacuation
We believe evacuation is bad policy for a controllable natural disaster - negative and poorly informed
Evacuation may save your life, bit it is a sure way of losing your house
The government fire brigades are not there to save your house in a bushfire. Their job is to stop the fire spreading. If your house survives, it is because of lady luck.

But evacuation is the preferred response by the authorities

Government's policy for severe bushfires is early evacuation. They believe this will save lives, and they may be right. But they are apparently not so concerned with the consequences of property loss.
They say (paraphrased): "Get out early. Save yourself. We will try to save your house, but cannot guarantee it."
Most people will follow government policy faithfully, without understanding the consequences.

What are the consequences?
You effectively transfer control of your property and assets to CHANCE, and CHANCE sometimes deals you a rough hand:

red beep . If people choose evacuation, their vacant house carries up to a 70% chance of destruction (This statistic has long been known. It comes from the Ash Wednesday fires of 1983). If some residents stay and are able to extinguish spot fires on neighbouring houses, the loss rate falls to just above 50%. That means one of every two vacant houses will be destroyed in a severe bushfire attack. (Red Eagle knows personally of one neighbour who stayed during the Ash Wednesday fires and extinguished small spot fires on four other houses. He was too exhausted to get to the others, and he sadly had to watch them burn down.)

red beep . Even 2 years after the Black Saturday fires, most people who lost houses had still not rebuilt despite a government sponsored rebuilding program.
