SELF DEFENCE SYSTEM
The Self Defence System is a method for developing bushfire protection capability on a property that is based on the long practiced principles of "dry" fire fighting that we learn in forest fire fighting. Dry fire fighting is how we stop the spread of fires without water. There are 5 steps in the Self Defence System Assets include people, livestock, pets, buildings and vehicles. The Self Defence System works for properties and townships because it passes the common sense test . SELF DEFENCE CAPABILITY Self defence capability is the self defence system in practice. When we assess for SELF DEFENCE CAPABILITY , we look for property and owners to meet these criteria: (1) . Passive defence capability (2) . Active defence capability (infrastructure) (3) . Active defence capability (personnel - knowledge and skill and mental resolve) If property and owners have SELF DEFENCE CAPABILITY, they have the capability to successfully protect themselves and their assets under severe bushfire attack. Self defence capability is a major input into the owners' decision of whether to stay and defend or to leave. Property owners can also learn how to self assess for these things. A WORD OF CAUTION If you are on a large property, we assume you have control over all steps. In this case, successful self defence is under your control. You can ask Red Eagle to check your situation If you are on a small property, you may not have control over steps # 3 and # 4. These factors are critical for your success in self defence. You should ask Red Eagle to assess your situation and if necessary, to speak to the neighbours. If you are in a township or settlement surrounded by forest or a mixture of forest and paddock and scrub, a new strategy is required. Why? You must get others to manage step # 3 and step # 4, otherwise self defence may be impossible. Firstly, ask Red Eagle to assess your situation Secondly, request action by the appropriate agency that legally administers fire protection on public or private land. They are legally required to provide protection for your property or township. They also have a duty of care obligation. Their inaction or inappropriate action should not prevent your ability to self defend. | |
